Throwback Thursday: Quick Look at Franklin-Christoph Model 45 IPO + Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-Yake

For this weeks’ Throwback, I’m revisiting a pen + ink combination from my July line-up.

Handwritten Review

Pen: Franklin-Christoph Model 45 IPO Masuyama M Cursive Italic Ink: Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-Yake Paper: Rhodia No. 16 Grid

Hey. Oh good. Yesterday I thought I was out of ink as I was writing the review for this pen. I’m glad to be able to finish the review of this pen + ink combo. Yu-Yake is another ink I haven’t used in a long while. It’s interesting to see it again. It’s a pretty colour. Not quite red, not quite orange. I dunno what to make of it. I should look up what is Yu-Yake in Japanese.

The MCI is a good nib to show off the shading of this ink. It wrote well with this ink. Smooth writing. Good flow. Rare to have any railroading. As usual for Pilot Iroshizuku inks, it’s well-behaved all around. I love the Iroshizuku inks and nice to try them again with all the Sailors that I’ve been trying. Flexing is fun and nice line variation. Nice. Oops. Just a touch of railroading. But the ink caught up again.

Closing Comments Just to follow up on my comment about looking up the meaning of Yu-yake: apparently it roughly means “sunset”. That’s a fitting name for this colour. It’s quite beautiful. I enjoyed it so much so that I have it inked up again for the month of October in a new Franklin-Christoph pen.
