Throwback Thursday: Tactile Turn Gist Titanium EF + Noodler's Raven Black
Continuing on the summer theme for Throwback Thursday, we take a look back at another pen + ink combo from my July line-up. Now, I’ve had in my mind to do a fulsome review of Noodler’s Raven Black so this Throwback will have a little more than usual.
This ink is a Canadian exclusive available from Wonder Pens which describes it as:
A Canadian Exclusive Noodler's ink. Raven Black - inspired by Edgar Allen Poe.
This is a bullet-proof and eternal black ink from Noodler’s.
Handwritten Review
Pen: Tactile Turn Gist EF
Ink: Noodler's Raven Black
Paper: Rhodia No. 16 Grid
Okay, so this nib is soft and writes wet. Nooder’s Raven Black is wet. Combination is pretty darn wet! Line is not extra fine. Not flexing here. Just regular writing and it looks wide. I appreciate that it writes smoothly though.
Let’s try to flex a bit. This is how it looks flexed. The feed knocks on the page sometimes leaving link marks.
Flex is fun! Indeed. Flex is Fun!
I like the softness of the titanium.
Turn this around for upside down writing. Now it’s XXF. Writes dry but it keeps on going. I kind of prefer the width of this more.
Closing Comments
This ink is velvety, wet and dark dark black. Black may seem “meh”, but I think it’s handy to have some water resistent black on hand for different purposes.
Now, the interesting thing I noticed by using Noodler’s Raven Black in the Tactile Turn Gist with the soft titanium nib is that this ink can look very slick. In fact it has a glossy sheen.
The sheen does appear on Rhodia paper when the ink is laid down wet.
But on Tomoe River paper…OMG…I could hardly believe it. It’s looks as slick as oil spill.
For me, the sheen makes this ink much more compelling than bullet-proof and eternal black. Those are nice properties to be sure, but a sheening black? Awesome.
If a sheening black makes you excited too, then head on over to Wonder Pens to check it out.
