Currently Inked: June 2017

It's been a few months since I last posted a Currently Inked.  Over this time, I've experimented with the number of pens I have inked up at any time. At one point I had as many as 12 pens inked.  It got to be a bit too much to manage.  Too many pens to track and maintain.  Now I'm trying to keep to 6 inked pens with a complete refresh every month.

2016 Holiday Gift Guide for Fountain Pen Addicts

Pen friends in the US are celebrating Thanksgiving this week and the countdown to Black Friday begins!  It got me thinking that a holiday gift guide would be helpful.  This guide is primarily intended for the non-pen person looking for a gift for the fountain pen aficionado, whether newbie or seasoned, in his or her life.

Currently Inked: November 2016

October came and went in a flash!  With the Scriptus pen showthis past Sunday and yesterday being Halloween, I didn't have much time to prepare my pen + ink combos for November.  Without further ado, here they are...

Currently Inked: Loadout for Weekend Hockey Tournament

October has been fairly light in terms of travel but duty called. This time the duties as a hockey mom which involved going with my son and his team to the city of Kitchener for a hockey tournament. Originally this was supposed to be a 3 day trip but cut short by the sad reality that our team did not make it into the final day of the tournament. On a positive note, it gave me an opportunity to plan another pen + ink load out.

Apart from my must-bring Hobo and TN, I wanted to bring whatever pens and paper I could fit inside a larger case. The case I had in mind was the A5 sized Lihit Lab Teffa Bag in Bag. I was expecting to travel a lot from rink to rink and I wanted a self-contained writing tool kit that I could bring along.

Currently Inked: October 2016

I’m posting my pen & ink line-up a later than originally planned.  I had hoped that a new pen that shipped out at the end of September would have arrived in time to join the October line-up.  I decided to go ahead and post my Currently Inked for October and do an addendum for the new pen.

Chinese Cacography: 修訂 Revise

It's interesting that Tokiwa-Matsu looks flat green on Baron Fig paper. Definitely a sign of it's absorbency compared to certain Travelers Notebook, Rhodia or Tomoe River papers.

Throwback Thursday: First Look at TWSBI Diamond 580 - Orange + Sailor Oku Yama

Yes, I realize that this post is going up on Saturday afternoon in my place of the world.  In other places, it's already Sunday.  I had the post written up Wednesday night but didn't manage to post it before I headed to a full day meeting on Thursday, followed by a flight.  Friday was a recovery day.

Since I have TWSBI 580 in my line up this month, I thought it would be fun to look at the first time I inked it up.

Currently Inked: April 2016

Tracking of my pen and ink combinations in a central place has helped my senile mind greatly.  I still feel the choice of using the Tomoe River Notebook bound by Coach House Press for Wonderpens for my Currently Inked log is a good one.  Great paper in a nice form factor.

It was a little hard to choose the new inks this month due to the number of holdovers from last month.  It was kind of unfortunate I was forced to top up a few pens with 3 days left in March to accommodate a one-day out of town trip.  But, it's all good as long as I have pens with ink to write with.

Big Apple Fountain Pen Loadout

Recently I had an one-day trip to New York City for a series of meetings. I didn't have to worry too much about packing luggage but I thought long and hard about what fountain pens and stationary to pack. After much deliberation, I settled on the Namiki Vanishing Point Raden Galaxy (M), Lamy Studio (14k EF) and Platinum 3776 Sai (M).

The Story of the Ink that Survived a Winter Journey from Arizona to Toronto

Let's step back for a moment.  9 days earlier I was listening to the episode of Penaddict with Azizah Azgarali as guest and Brad was going on about the great deal on the Platinum 3776 Sai.  I only have the Platinum Cool in my pen collection so the 3776 on my 'later' wish list.  After hearing the deal and doing some homework, I found myself putting one into my shopping cart. Well, I couldn't just order one pen and have it shipped from the US...I had to put something else into the cart.  I debated and decided to put a bottle of Sailor Jentle Shigure in the cart.
