Currently Inked: August 2016
I headed off for my annual family cottage vacation a few days before the end of July. It was a hectic last week before I left so there wasn't time for me to switch to August ink fillings, plus, many of the pens inked up in July were 'not quite' used up at that point. So, I did what any reasonable pen and ink addict would do in this situation...I packed up all my July pens, my planned August pens and all the ink I could find that was in plastic bottles or vials. These are pen & ink pairings I ended up with.
HOLDOVERS (In order of appearance in line-up)
Pen: Kaweco Brass Sport EF
Ink: KWZ Brown Pink
There's not much of the Brown Pink left in this pen...after all, that squeeze converter is teeny tiny...but I love this weird Brown Pink so much that I didn't want to lose a single drop!
Pen: Franklin-Christoph Model 45 IPO Masuyama M Cursive Italic
Ink: Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-Yake
To be honest, I'm not sure how much is left in here. I don't think it's much. I was planning to eye-dropper this with the brand new bottle of Franklin-Christoph Noir et Bleu that I literally received in the mail the day I left for vacation. I'll just have to be patient for September to try the new ink!
Pen: TWSBI Vac Mini 1.1
Ink: KWZ IG Turquoise
I have a lot of large pens inked up for August so I'm kind of glad to have this Vac Mini still hanging around for the month. As I mentioned in my EDC for Kayaking post, I'm really enjoying this pen and the ink.
Pen: Noodlers Neponset Goulet 1.5
Ink: J. Herbin 1670 Caroube de Chypre
I got this ink towards the end of July with the big release. I haven't used a glittering ink for awhile and it's been kind of fun to have this on hand for some major shimmer. It's been flowing quite well. You can check out my review of Caroube de Chypre here.
#NEW (In order of appearance in line-up)#
Pen: Edison LE Mina EF
Ink: Diamine Teal
I was trying to be matchy-matchy with the ink and the body.
Pen: Bexley Gaston’s Special Reserve M
Ink: Diamine Ancient Copper
Another one I was trying to match pen body with ink. I haven't used Ancient Copper in a while. Love the shading!
Pen: OMAS Ogiva Alba EF Extra Flessibile
Ink: Omas Blue
I've had this sample on hand for some time now and never got around to using it. Let me just one word: SHEEN!
Ok, I need more than one word. the sheen was a real surprise to me. the ink reminds me of Akkerman Shocking Blue which I had inked up in the same pen in June. Omas Blue is a more intense blue. Too bad OMAS is gone...I must try to hunt down a couple bottles of this ink. Beautiful stuff.
Pen: Franklin-Christoph Model 20 Translucent Bronze F S.I.G.
Ink: Franklin-Christoph Tenebris Purpuratum
I originally got the Music nib with this pen but I've had the Music nib in my Model 66 and had Masuyama Needlepoint from the Model 66 in this pen during June. Alas, while cleaning out this pen, I accidently flushed the needlepoint nib down the drain. It was quite a shock. After some deliberation, I decided to get a couple of nib units from Franklin-Christoph including this new Stub Italic Gradient. So far, I quite like the feel of this nib.
Since I was getting nibs, I decided to get a coming bottles of ink to try. I saw that Franklin-Christoph was offering ink in the traditional glass bottles or new plastic Eye Dropper Bottles. I thought the new bottles were quite clever so I decided to get the eye dropper bottles.
Pen: Pilot/Namiki Vanishing Point Raden Water Surface F
Ink: KWZ Standard Green #2
I didn't have much choice left so I decided to try a sample of KWZ Standard Green #2 that I had on hand in the VP. Since the Raden has some green in it, it's a decent match. What can I say, this is a standard looking green!
Pen: Karas Kustoms Ink F
Ink: Diamine Sepia
I got this pen at the end of June and I've been waiting patiently to ink it up. I thought the Sepia would pick up on the copper grip section.
Pen: Lamy 2000 EF
Ink: Akkerman #14 Parkapop Purple
Well, I generally like dark proper work inks in the L2K. But I don't always follow this guideline. Parkapop Purple looks pretty funky. This combo will either drive me nuts or make me crazy happy.
Pen: Pilot Falcon SF
Ink: Diamine Chocolate Brown
Why not?
Pen: Tactile Turn Gist Ti EF
Ink: J. Herbin Orange Indien
I decided to keep the TTG around so that I could compare it with the Karas Kustoms Ink. Orange Indien is almost florescent! A real pop of colour.
So how many pens do you have inked up for August? What are your favourite pen and ink combos?
My Galen Leather zippered pen case came along while I relaxed on the docks at the lake. Fountain pens living dangerously on the edge...
